# ClickUp vs Jira: what each plan costs per user, and which one to keep

> ClickUp Core, Business and Max set against Jira Free, Standard and Premium on verified US month-to-month prices, with what each tier unlocks and how much a 10-person team saves by keeping one.

**Typical savings:** a 10-person team paying for Jira Standard ($9.70 per user/month) and ClickUp Core ($12 per user/month) spends $217 a month on two project tools. Keeping only Jira Standard saves $120/month ($1,440 a year). Keeping only ClickUp Core saves $97/month ($1,164 a year). At the upper tier, Jira Premium ($19.60 per user/month) and ClickUp Business ($25 per user/month) together cost $446 a month for 10 people. Keeping only Jira Premium saves $250/month ($3,000 a year), and keeping only ClickUp Business saves $196/month ($2,352 a year).

One more option is worth checking first. Jira Free covers up to 10 users. If your engineering team is 10 people or fewer and fits Free's limits (2 GB storage, 150 automation steps a month across the whole subscription), moving Jira to Free and keeping ClickUp Core for everyone else removes the $97/month Jira bill without a migration.

The usual reason for paying for both is a split team: engineering tracks issues and sprints in Jira, while marketing, operations or leadership plan work in ClickUp. Both are priced per person, so every person who has a seat in both is paid for twice.

## The plans side by side

| Jira plan | Price per user | ClickUp plan | Price per user |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 (up to 10 users) | Free Forever | $0 (60 MB storage) |
| Standard | $9.70/month | Core | $12/month |
| Premium | $19.60/month | Business | $25/month |
| — | — | Max | $120/month |
| Enterprise | Contact sales | Enterprise | Contact sales |

All prices are US month-to-month. They come from our [Jira page](/tools/jira) (atlassian.com/software/jira/pricing, checked on 2026-10-28) and our [ClickUp page](/tools/clickup) (clickup.com/pricing, checked on 2026-10-28). Jira's per-user price applies to the first 100 users. Above 100 users Atlassian uses graduated volume pricing, so larger teams should get their average per-user price from Atlassian's pricing calculator. The rows pair the first paid tier and the next tier up on each side.

Both vendors also sell yearly billing at a lower effective price. Jira sells it in user tiers rather than per user, so we compare month-to-month only. Jira Enterprise is annual-only and quoted by sales, so we don't show a price.

ClickUp Max ($120 per user/month) is a much larger AI allowance on top of Enterprise controls. Compare it only if your team uses ClickUp Brain heavily every month.

## What each tier unlocks

| | Jira | ClickUp |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Up to 10 users, 2 GB storage, 150 automation steps a month | Unlimited free members and tasks, 60 MB storage, a 500-credit AI trial |
| First paid tier | Standard: up to 100,000 users, 400 automation steps per user a month, 250 GB storage | Core: unlimited storage, custom fields, unlimited forms and Gantt charts, 1K automations a month |
| Next tier | Premium: cross-team planning and dependency management, 750 automation steps per user a month, unlimited storage, 99.9% uptime SLA | Business: advanced dashboards, webhooks and automation integrations, resource management and timesheets, 10K automations a month |

Features are from the same catalog pages. The two vendors count automation usage differently, so the monthly limits aren't directly comparable. Check your current usage in each account.

## Keep Jira when

- Engineering runs sprints, backlogs and issue workflows in it, and those custom workflows, fields and boards took real effort to build.
- You use Confluence or Bitbucket. Our catalog notes the links between Atlassian products make Jira harder to replace than a simple task board.
- You need cross-team planning and dependency management, which our catalog lists on Jira Premium.

## Keep ClickUp when

- Most of the team isn't in engineering and works in docs, chat and tasks together in one Workspace.
- You rely on advanced dashboards, resource management or timesheets on Business.
- Your engineering work is light enough to run as tasks with custom fields and statuses rather than as a full issue tracker.

## Before you cancel either one

- **Jira:** work items can be moved out, but workflows, automation rules and integrations have to be rebuilt elsewhere. Dropping to Free caps the site at 10 users and 2 GB storage and removes user roles and permissions.
- **ClickUp:** tasks and docs can be moved out, but automations, dashboards, custom fields and integrations have to be rebuilt elsewhere. Downgrading removes custom fields, automations above the plan limit, advanced dashboards and AI credits.
- Count the people who hold a seat in both tools. That number, not the whole team, is what you're paying for twice.

If your projects are simple enough for a spreadsheet, compare [Asana, Trello or Sheets for simple project tracking](/guides/asana-vs-trello-vs-sheets). If you also pay for monday.com, see [monday.com vs ClickUp](/guides/monday-vs-clickup).

## Test before you cancel

Run the free [workflow readiness check](/workflows/asana-trello-monday-to-existing-suite#readiness) on our project tracking consolidation workflow. Confirm which plan each tool is on, then record a test on one real project, including one handoff between engineering and the rest of the team, before you cancel anything. You don't need an account, your progress stays in your browser, and you can download the checklist as Markdown.
