**Typical savings:** if you pay for Microsoft 365 Personal ($9.99/month) for Word and Excel, you already get Copilot chat. Adding Grok Plus ($8/month) brings the total to $17.99, so dropping Grok saves $8/month ($96 a year). At the top end, someone paying for Grok Premium ($30/month) as well as Microsoft 365 Premium ($19.99/month) spends $49.99 a month. Keeping only Microsoft 365 Premium saves $30/month ($360 a year).

Copilot isn't sold like Grok. For consumers, Microsoft includes it in Microsoft 365 Personal and Premium, alongside the Office apps. Grok's paid tiers come through The X Subscription, which also covers X benefits and eligible Cursor usage. So the comparison is between two bundles, not two chatbots. For a summary of Grok's plans, see [Do you still need Grok?](/replace/grok).

## The plans side by side

| Plan | Price | What it includes (from our catalog) |
|---|---|---|
| Grok Free | $0 | Limited AI usage on the web and in the apps |
| Grok Plus | $8/month | Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine and Build, Grok API access, the X verified checkmark and fewer ads, and a weekly allowance for eligible Grok and Cursor usage |
| Microsoft 365 Personal | $9.99/month ($99.99/year) | Office apps for one person, Copilot chat with higher usage than free, and more AI image creation than free |
| Microsoft 365 Premium | $19.99/month ($199.99/year) | Office apps, Copilot chat with extensive usage, and agentic features including advanced research and analytics |
| Grok Premium | $30/month | 4x Plus usage, the latest Grok models, Grok Bot, AI image and video creation, and ad-free scrolling on most X surfaces |

Grok prices are US month-to-month from our [Grok page](/tools/grok) (cursor.com/pricing, checked on 2026-10-13). Microsoft prices are from our [Microsoft 365 Copilot page](/tools/microsoft-365-copilot) (Microsoft's consumer plan comparison page, checked on 2026-10-13). Microsoft also lists a yearly price for each consumer plan. Annual Grok prices aren't on this page.

The two vendors measure usage differently, so "higher usage" on one isn't comparable with "4x" on the other.

## Keep Microsoft 365 when

- You'd pay for Word, Excel and Outlook anyway. Copilot chat then comes with the plan at no extra cost, and Grok doesn't include Office apps.
- You want Copilot and the Office apps on one bill.
- You'd rather pay yearly. Microsoft 365 Personal is $99.99/year.

## Keep Grok when

- Live posts and trends on X are part of the research you actually do. Our catalog lists this as the hardest part of Grok to replace.
- You use the X benefits (the checkmark, fewer or no ads) or Cursor through the same subscription.
- You need Grok Bot or Grok's image and video creation, which come with Premium.

## At work it's a different product

Microsoft 365 Copilot for organisations is a separate add-on. It costs $30 per user/month billed annually, on top of a qualifying Microsoft 365 plan. Eligible business users also get Copilot Chat at no extra cost. If your employer already provides that, see [Is included Copilot Chat enough to drop a paid work seat?](/guides/copilot-chat-vs-paid-work-seat) before paying for a personal plan as well.

## Before you cancel either one

- **Grok:** check whether you're on The X Subscription or a legacy plan. According to SpaceXAI's cancellation docs, cancelling The X Subscription doesn't reverse account unification or restore your previous subscriptions. Chats and generated media can be downloaded one at a time.
- **Microsoft 365:** Copilot output is saved as normal Office files, so your documents stay if you change plans. Check what the Office apps are doing for you before you drop the subscription itself.
