Grok and Cursor are now one subscription: don't pay for both twice
Grok and Cursor are sold through the same X Subscription tiers at the same prices, with one weekly allowance for eligible usage. What that means if you pay for both, which tier fits, and what to check before you cancel an older plan.
Typical savings: one Plus seat ($8/month) on The X Subscription covers eligible Grok and Cursor usage. If you're paying for a second Plus seat just to get the other product, that's $8/month ($96 a year) you may not need. At Premium, a duplicate seat is $30/month ($360 a year). At the top end, a duplicate Ultra seat is $200/month ($2,400 a year).
Grok and Cursor used to be separate products with separate bills. Both are now sold through The X Subscription, from the same pricing page, at the same prices. Eligible first-party Grok and Cursor usage draws from one weekly allowance for each paid seat. If you signed up for each one on its own, check whether you're now paying twice. What each tier means for coding in Cursor
| Tier | In Cursor (from our catalog) |
|---|---|
| Free | Limited agent and chat requests, no cloud agents |
| Plus ($8) | First-party models only, no cloud agents. Third-party models aren't available on Plus |
| Premium ($30) | 4x Plus usage, cloud agents and automations, code hosting and AI code reviews. Directly selected third-party models use separate paid usage, while Auto Cost mode draws from the included allowance |
| Super ($100) and Ultra ($200) | 15x or 50x Plus usage. Same rules for third-party models as Premium |
On the Grok side, Plus includes Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine and Build, Grok API access, and the X verified checkmark and fewer ads. Premium adds the latest Grok models, Grok Bot, AI image and video creation, and ad-free scrolling on most X surfaces.
One allowance cuts both ways
- The saving: you don't need a separate plan for each product.
- The catch: heavy coding in Cursor and heavy use of Grok draw on the same weekly allowance. If one seat ran out when you used each product on its own, it will run out sooner when one seat covers both. Two Plus seats ($16) cost less than one Premium seat ($30), but Premium has 4x the Plus usage. Compare how much you actually use before choosing.
- Team accounts: each paid self-serve team seat has its own allowance, and seats don't pool it.
Before you cancel an older plan
- Check which billing you're on. Switching to The X Subscription is optional for eligible individual and self-serve team accounts, and existing subscriptions continue unless you change or cancel them.
- Cancelling doesn't undo the switch. According to SpaceXAI's cancellation docs, cancelling The X Subscription doesn't reverse account unification or restore previous subscriptions. Don't cancel the old plan until the new one covers what you use.
- Check model access. Our catalog notes that vendor pages differ on which first-party models Plus includes, so confirm in your account before you change plans.
- Your code is safe. It lives in your own files and Git repositories. Settings, rules and chat history are what you'd lose by moving editors.
- Turn on privacy mode. Cursor's pricing page says privacy mode guarantees your code isn't used for training, but you or a team admin have to turn it on in settings.
