Is Grok Ultra worth it? Downgrading or consolidating your Grok subscription

For people on a high Grok tier: how to compare Grok's tiers, when a lower tier is enough, and how to consolidate overlapping AI assistant subscriptions.

Grok is sold in tiers: Free, Plus ($8/month), Premium ($30), Super ($100) and Ultra ($200/month). The higher tiers bundle Grok usage with X Premium perks and Cursor usage in one shared allowance. If you also pay for another AI assistant, part of that spend may overlap. In order of risk:

Option 1: Drop to the tier you actually use

  • Usage. Check whether you regularly hit the limits of the tier below. If not, moving from Ultra to Super saves $100/month, and to Premium saves $170/month.
  • Bundle value. Count the bundled X Premium and Cursor usage only if you'd otherwise pay for them. Our Grok page lists what each tier includes.

Option 2: Consolidate to one assistant

If you pay for Grok and also for ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, the AI assistant consolidation workflow gives you a one-week side-by-side test on your real tasks, then a scoring sheet to decide what to keep. It costs $0 extra. If Grok loses, cancelling Ultra saves $200/month.

When to keep paying

Keep Grok if you rely on native access to live X posts and trends, you already pay for X Premium and use Cursor (so the bundle replaces other bills), or you need its creative image and video generation.
