ClickUp vs Asana: what each plan costs per user, and which one to keep

ClickUp Core and Business set against Asana Starter and Advanced on verified US month-to-month prices, with what each tier unlocks and how much a 10-person team saves by keeping one.

Typical savings: a 10-person team paying for ClickUp Core ($12 per user/month) and Asana Starter ($13.49 per user/month) spends $254.90 a month on two work-management tools. Keeping only ClickUp Core saves $134.90/month ($1,618.80 a year). Keeping only Asana Starter saves $120/month ($1,440 a year). At the upper tier, ClickUp Business ($25 per user/month) and Asana Advanced ($30.49 per user/month) together cost $554.90 a month for 10 people. Keeping only ClickUp Business saves $304.90/month ($3,658.80 a year), and keeping only Asana Advanced saves $250/month ($3,000 a year).

Teams usually end up paying for both when one department picked ClickUp and another picked Asana, and nobody consolidated. Both are task and project tools priced per person, so the overlap is large. The useful question is which one your team's real projects, automations and dashboards live in.

All prices are US month-to-month. They come from our ClickUp page (clickup.com/pricing, checked on 2026-10-28) and our Asana page (asana.com/pricing, US, checked on 2026-10-15 and re-read on 2026-10-29). The rows pair plans by what they unlock: ClickUp Core and Asana Starter are the first tiers with Gantt views and automations, and ClickUp Business and Asana Advanced are the next step up.

ClickUp's pricing FAQ says an upgrade applies to the whole Workspace, so every member is billed, not only the people who need the paid features. Count your full member list when you check the 10-person totals above against your own team.

Both vendors also show lower prices for yearly billing. We compare month-to-month only. Neither vendor publishes an Enterprise price, so we don't show one. ClickUp Max ($120 per user/month) is a much larger AI allowance on top of Enterprise controls, not a bigger project plan, so Asana has no equivalent row. Compare it only if your team runs through ClickUp Brain credits every month.

What each tier unlocks

ClickUp Asana
Free Unlimited free members and tasks, 60 MB storage Personal: up to 2 users, unlimited tasks and projects
First paid tier Core: unlimited storage, custom fields, unlimited forms and Gantt charts, 1K automations a month Starter: timeline and Gantt views, reporting dashboards, unlimited automations, forms, custom fields, unlimited free guests
Next tier Business: advanced dashboards, webhooks and automation integrations, resource management and timesheets, 10K automations a month Advanced: portfolios, goals, resource management, approvals and proofing, time tracking

Features are from the same catalog pages and the vendors' US pricing pages. ClickUp caps automations per month by plan, while Asana's pricing page lists unlimited automations from Starter, so check your monthly automation runs in ClickUp before you compare.

Keep ClickUp when

  • Docs and chat sit next to tasks and people actually use them. Moving those into Asana means finding another home for them.
  • You rely on custom fields, task types and statuses configured around your process.
  • Cost per person matters most. ClickUp Core is $1.49 per user/month less than Asana Starter, and ClickUp Business is $5.49 less than Asana Advanced.

Keep Asana when

  • Your team plans work as projects with timelines, intake forms and dashboards, and your automations would hit ClickUp Core's 1K-a-month limit.
  • You use portfolios and goals on Advanced to track work across teams.
  • Clients or contractors work with you as guests. Asana's pricing page lists unlimited free guests from Starter.

Before you cancel either one

  • ClickUp: tasks and docs can be moved out, but automations, dashboards, custom fields and integrations have to be rebuilt elsewhere. A Workspace that combines tasks, docs and chat takes longer to move than a single-purpose tool.
  • Asana: projects and tasks can be exported, but rules, portfolios and integrations have to be rebuilt elsewhere. Downgrading removes timelines, dashboards, automations and forms from existing projects.
  • Run both side by side for one normal work cycle before cancelling. Check that recurring work, reminders and reports still reach the right people.

If your projects are simple enough for a spreadsheet, compare Asana, Trello or Sheets for simple project tracking.
