Google AI Pro vs ChatGPT Plus: same price, different bundles, which one to keep
Gemini through Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra set against ChatGPT Go and Plus on verified US month-to-month prices, with what each plan includes besides the assistant and how much you save by keeping one.
Typical savings: Google AI Pro is $19.99/month and ChatGPT Plus is $20/month, so paying for both costs $39.99 a month. Keeping only ChatGPT Plus saves $19.99/month ($239.88 a year). Keeping only Google AI Pro saves $20/month ($240 a year). At the top end, Google AI Ultra (20x) is $199.99/month. If Google AI Pro's limits cover your work, stepping down from Ultra (20x) to Pro saves $180/month ($2,160 a year) and keeps Gemini in Gmail and Docs.
At the main tier the two plans cost almost exactly the same, so price won't decide this. What decides it is what comes with each plan. Google AI plans include Google storage and, on some tiers, YouTube Premium. ChatGPT Plus covers ChatGPT alone. So the question is which bundle you'd miss.
The plans side by side
| Google AI plan | Price | ChatGPT plan | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Free | $0 |
| Google AI Plus | $4.99/month | Go | $8/month |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99/month | Plus | $20/month |
| Google AI Ultra (5x) | $99.99/month | Pro | Not verified (see below) |
| Google AI Ultra (20x) | $199.99/month | Pro | Not verified (see below) |
All prices are US month-to-month. They come from our Gemini page (gemini.google/subscriptions, checked on 2026-10-13, and on 2026-10-15 for Ultra 5x) and our ChatGPT page (chatgpt.com/pricing, checked on 2026-10-13). The rows pair plans by price, not by usage. Google and OpenAI measure usage differently, so "5x" on one isn't comparable with a usage tier on the other.
We don't show a price for ChatGPT Pro. OpenAI's pricing page gives only a starting price and offers three usage tiers without an exact price for each, so our catalog leaves it unknown. Check the vendor's page before comparing Pro with Google AI Ultra.
At the entry level Google AI Plus is $3.01/month cheaper than ChatGPT Go. At the main tier the difference is one cent.

Keep Google AI Pro when
- The plan is also your Google storage. Our Gemini page warns that cancelling can push photos and email over the free 15 GB quota, so you may end up paying Google for storage anyway.
- You write in Gmail and Docs and use Gemini there. Our catalog lists Gemini in Gmail and Docs from AI Pro up.
- You use YouTube Premium Lite, which comes with AI Pro.
Keep ChatGPT Plus when
- Your work depends on custom GPTs, projects or memory. Our catalog notes these are specific to ChatGPT and have to be rebuilt anywhere else.
- You use Codex, scheduled tasks or apps that connect to your internal tools every week.
- You don't need the storage or YouTube extras, so the bundle in Google's price isn't worth anything to you.
Before you cancel either one
- Google AI Pro: check how much storage you use across Drive, Gmail and Photos before the plan ends. Export Gemini activity through Google Takeout. Gems and settings have to be recreated elsewhere. Files you made stay in your Google account.
- ChatGPT Plus: export your chat history from settings as a data archive. Copy the instructions behind any custom GPTs and projects you rely on. On Free, Go and Plus, OpenAI's pricing page says content can be used for training unless you opt out, so check that setting if you keep ChatGPT.
