Grok vs Gemini: what each tier costs side by side, and which one to keep
Grok's Plus, Premium, Super and Ultra tiers set against Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra on verified US month-to-month prices, with what each bundle carries besides the assistant and how much you save by keeping one.
Typical savings: if you pay for Grok Premium ($30/month) and Google AI Pro ($19.99/month), you spend $49.99 a month on two assistants. Keeping only Gemini saves $30/month ($360 a year), and keeping only Grok saves $19.99/month. At the top end, Grok Ultra ($200/month) and Google AI Ultra (20x) ($199.99/month) cost almost the same, so paying for both is $399.99 a month. Dropping either one saves about $200/month.
Grok and Gemini are both sold as bundles now. Grok's paid tiers come through The X Subscription, which also covers X benefits and eligible Cursor usage. Google AI plans include Google storage and, on some tiers, YouTube Premium. So the right question isn't which chatbot is better. It's which bundle you'd miss. The tiers side by side
| Grok tier | Price | Google AI plan | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Free | $0 |
| Plus | $8/month | Google AI Plus | $4.99/month |
| Premium | $30/month | Google AI Pro | $19.99/month |
| Super | $100/month | Google AI Ultra (5x) | $99.99/month |
| Ultra | $200/month | Google AI Ultra (20x) | $199.99/month |
All prices are US month-to-month. They're from our Grok page (cursor.com/pricing, checked on 2026-10-13) and our Gemini page (gemini.google/subscriptions, checked on 2026-10-13, and on 2026-10-15 for Ultra 5x). The rows pair tiers by price, not by usage. The two vendors measure usage differently, so "4x" on one isn't comparable with "4x" on the other.
At the entry and middle tiers, Gemini is cheaper: $3.01/month less at Plus and $10.01/month less at Pro vs Premium. At the top two tiers the prices are within a cent of each other.

Keep Grok when
- Live posts and trends on X are part of the research you actually do. Other assistants see X only indirectly.
- You use the X benefits (the checkmark, fewer or no ads) or Cursor through the same subscription.
- Grok's image or video results beat Gemini's on your own tasks.
Keep Gemini when
- The plan is also your Google storage. Gemini's catalog page warns that cancelling can push photos and email over the free 15 GB quota.
- You write in Gmail and Docs and use Gemini there. Our catalog lists Gemini in Gmail and Docs from AI Pro up.
- You use YouTube Premium Lite (AI Pro) or YouTube Premium (AI Ultra, subject to country eligibility).
Before you cancel either one
- Grok: check whether you're on The X Subscription or a legacy plan. According to SpaceXAI's cancellation docs, cancelling The X Subscription doesn't reverse account unification or restore your previous subscriptions. Chats and generated media can be downloaded one at a time.
- Gemini: export Gemini activity through Google Takeout. Gems and settings have to be recreated elsewhere. Check your storage use before the plan ends.
Test before you cancel
Run the free workflow readiness check on our AI assistant consolidation workflow. Tick the assistants you have and confirm which plan each is on. Then record each test on your real tasks before you cancel anything. You don't need an account, your progress stays in your browser, and you can download the checklist as Markdown.
